LLL’s sarangi playing gives this release an otherworldy feel, as if one’s despair over the loss of so many beautiful insect lives to humanity’s rapacious greed for land and cruel ignorance takes form on shadowy wings and sheds tears of darkness on every treestump tomb it visits. Yet her spoken words describing the monarchs’ demise, voiced over ominous drums, are even more haunting.
